This page explains, in plain words, what Paragraph keeps about you, why, who helps us run it, and how you can download or delete it. It covers this website and the Paragraph app, and goes with our terms of use.
Who we are
Paragraph is run by Raith Software Limited, a company registered in Scotland (number SC855772). We decide how your data is used, which makes us the data controller under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
For anything about your data, email privacy@paragraph.golf.
This website
This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers, and its fonts are served from here rather than from Google. Our host, Cloudflare, handles your IP address and the pages you ask for so it can deliver the site and protect it from attacks.
What the app keeps
Your account
You sign in with Google or Microsoft. We keep the name and email address they give us and an id for your account with them, so you can sign in again. We never see or keep your password.
When you first sign in we ask you to confirm you're 18 or over and that you agree to our terms and this page. We keep a record of that: which version you agreed to and when. If we change the terms, we ask again, and keep that record too.
Your golf
- The shots, range sessions and rounds in the files you upload. We read each file and keep what is in it, not the file itself.
- What you add: notes on sessions and rounds, your Handicap Index, your bag, your settings, and any corrections to shots.
- The summaries written for you from your data.
Keeping it running
Our servers record requests and errors (with your account's id, not your name) so we can fix problems and keep the service secure, and use your IP address for a short time to stop too many requests from one place. If the app goes wrong in your browser, it reports the error and the page it happened on.
The app uses one cookie, to keep you signed in. It's needed for the app to work, so it doesn't ask first. The app also remembers a few choices in your browser (light or dark, which sections you've closed); they stay on your device.
Why we use it
- To give you the service you signed up for: keeping your data and showing you your numbers (our contract with you).
- To keep it working and secure: logs, error reports and limits on requests (our legitimate interest in running a reliable, safe service).
- To keep proof that you agreed to the terms and that you're an adult (our legitimate interest in being able to show it, and in keeping children off the service).
We don't sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except the services below.
You don't have to give us anything, but we need your sign-in and your golf data to provide the service: without them you can't use the app.
The summaries are written automatically from your data, but they're only information for you. We don't make any decision about you by automated means, and nothing about you is used to profile you for anyone else.
Who helps us run it
These companies process data for us, under contracts that only let them use it to provide their service:
- Microsoft Azure: hosts the app, its database and our logs, in West Europe (the Netherlands).
- Cloudflare: delivers this website and the app to your browser.
- Google and Microsoft: sign you in, if you choose them.
- Anthropic: its AI model writes your summaries and, when you ask it to, matches the columns of a shots file. For a summary it's sent the numbers, dates and courses from your sessions and rounds, your Handicap Index, and your own notes on them, but not your name or email address. To match columns it's sent the file's column names and first five rows. Anthropic doesn't use this to train its models, and deletes it within 30 days unless it's needed to investigate misuse or the law requires keeping it. It may be processed outside the UK, including in the United States. You can turn summaries off in Settings; then nothing is sent to write them, and the ones you have are hidden until you turn them back on.
Where your data leaves the UK, it's protected by UK law: the European Economic Area, where Azure keeps it, is recognised by the UK as protecting it to the same standard, and transfers to the United States are covered by the UK's approved addendum to the standard contractual clauses or by the UK-US data bridge.
How long we keep it
We keep your golf data for as long as you have an account, so your history is there when you come back. You can delete it at any time, and when you delete your account everything goes with it: your data and your summaries, and the record of what you agreed to. Copies in our backups are gone within 7 days. Logs and error reports are kept for 30 days and then deleted.
Your rights
You can:
- Get a copy of your data, or take it elsewhere: in Settings, Your data, "Download all my data" gives you everything in one file, in formats other apps can read.
- Delete it: in the same place, "Delete all my data" or "Delete my account".
- Correct it: change notes and settings, and correct or exclude shots, in the app; for anything else, like your name or email address, email us.
- Object or ask us to limit how we use it. To stop summaries being written, turn them off in Settings.
For anything else, or if you can't do it in the app, email us and we'll reply within a month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
Paragraph is for adults only: you must be 18 or over to use it. We ask you to confirm your age the first time you sign in. We don't knowingly keep data about anyone under 18, and if we find an account belongs to someone under 18, we'll delete it and everything in it.
Changes
If we change how we use your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app or by email before a significant change takes effect.
